About

Kori Higgins

Though I’m now based in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, I was born in West Berlin and spent my childhood among Germany, Japan, and the US. When I travel, I’m on the constant lookout for evidence of the past, and love to search out coffee shops and local boutiques. I’ve got 28 countries under my belt so far, and a long list of places I can’t wait to go to.
When I’m not traveling, I work in finance. I’m also involved with effective altruism, am an aspiring vegetarian, and try to read as much as I can. My top 5 carry on items would be:
  • Unstructured travel blazer — It’s so easy to feel grody after an 8 hour flight, and a blazer helps keep me feeling like I’m at least looking crisp (something like this from Uniqlo, or this from Everlane) . This also doubles as warmth on a flight, and a pillow in desperate times.
  • Three Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt Kind Bars — Enough to hold me over just in case the airplane food is particularly odious.
  • Offline Spotify sleep playlist — Enough said. Mine’s here if you want to borrow it.
  • One good book — They can’t run out of battery. Right now I’m in the middle of The Darkening Age: The Christian Destruction of the Classical World.
  • One good pen — For customs forms, little notes and passing thoughts, or sudoku in the back of the airline magazines, a good pen is the underrated MVP in the travel game. Also will give you some good karma, since someone else will ask to borrow it, guaranteed. Just make sure you get it back.
